Some people call us a “think” tank; others a “do” tank. The IRS labels us as a non-profit educational research organization. We have been all those things for the past 18 years, from our humble beginning of 341 members to more than 5,000 today.

What sets us apart at the Evergreen Freedom Foundation (Freedom Foundation) is our determination to make rigorous, non-partisan research accessible to voters, not just politicians. We envision a day when opportunity, responsible self-governance, and free markets flourish in Washington state because its citizens understand and cherish the principles from which freedom is derived.

Our primary research areas are budget, taxes, education, labor, elections, property rights, and citizenship. We publish, teach, speak, testify, and occasionally litigate when public information is withheld or when constitutionally protected rights have been trampled.

We also are building an active online audience through audio and video podcasts, films, blogging, and investigative journalism.

We exist because the ideal of freedom is always only one generation away from extinction. It must be deliberately passed on—deliberately safeguarded. The freedom we Americans still enjoy of being able to mostly chart our own course depends on us distinguishing what government can and should do versus what we the people must do ourselves. At the Freedom Foundation, we specialize in helping people understand that distinction.

We are also unique because we accept no money from public sources, like government agencies. Our research and our voice are underwritten by more than 5,000 supporters.
